Dragon Ball Soundtrack Analysis & Themes #1: Pilaf Saga & The 21th Tenkaichi Budokai (A-J)

In this video I analyze the first two Dragon Ball soundtracks!  The A-J soundtrack and the M00 soundtrack, in this post I will focus on talking about the themes present in these soundtracks, for information about the soundtracks themselves, click here.

 A-J:

Goku: Dragon Ball's opening theme "Makafushigi Adventure" is incorporated into the soundtrack, serving as Goku's first theme.  Sometimes a triumphant variant is heard, used for the character's most crucial moments.

Bulma: Dragon Ball's ending theme "Romantic Ageru Yo" is incorporated into the soundtrack, serving as Bulma's first theme, this theme does not return after this soundtrack.

Muten Roshi / Kame Sennin: The theme made to represent Muten Roshi / Kame Sennin, it seems that the melody has certain similarities with the theme of Goku / Makafushigi Adventure, an inspiration.

Yamcha: the first theme made to represent Yamcha, I'm not sure if here in this soundtrack, Kikuchi had already thought of this being the theme of Yamcha. The theme returns in the future.

Kinto'un: theme made to represent Kinto'un, Goku's flying cloud.

Evil Theme: a threatening theme, I have no idea who or what this was made to represent, as its uses in the series do not indicate, my bet is the Pilaf Gang, as they are the villains of the first arc, but it can also represent Oolong.

Dragon Balls: The individual theme made to represent the Dragon Balls.

Shenlong: the individual theme made to represent Shenlong, the inspiration in the theme of the Dragon Balls is quite clear.

 M00:

Kame Sennin's Trainings: theme made to represent Goku and Krillin training with Kame Sennin / Muten Roshi, I'm not sure if Kikuchi when composing this melody thought of it as a theme, but it returns in the future.

Victory: theme made to represent the victory of Goku and his friends, I'm also not sure if Kikuchi thought of this melody as a theme initially, but it returns in the future in several movies.

Watch the video to find out when you hear each theme on each track!

Soundtracks composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi (R.I.P)
